Bass Fishing is a relaxing free bass fishing game that is being played using only the keyboard arrows. You have to press the ‘’right’’ and ‘’left’’ arrow keys to move the boat on the lake and the ‘’down’’ key to drop the hook into the water.

Your fishing trip gives you several modes of play. Arcade Mode plays a LOT like Sega's Bass Fishing, only without the cool fishing controller. You have a set amount of time to capture five fish and move on to other levels. You get a lot more time to do this than Sega's version, though. The other modes are Competition and Challenge, which are basically the same thing: Complete a fishing task of some sort to move on or get your name in the record book. All of the modes play pretty much the same.

If you've played any other recent fishing game, you already know how to play for the most part. Pick a location, pick a bait, cast, and then hope you get a bite. The game play and controls feel more or less the same as all the other fishing games out there once you get the hang of them. Because the analog controls are not utilized as analog, you really need to use the buttons to vary your reeling speed. Despite the fact that you may already know how to play a game like this or fish in real life, how you utilize the controls is where the learning curve comes in. I played once without reading the manual and this game just didn't make much sense once I cast the line. After reading the manual over, I then learned what all the gauges and such meant and life got much easier. In fact, catching fish in this game is pretty easy once you know how to do it. There are also some power-ups that make catching fish easier, but they're pretty tough to snag.

The graphics quality depends on whether you're above or below water. Above water you see some nice backgrounds and yourself (who happens to be a hot babe) standing in the boat. Below the surface the water is murky and grainy and there isn't much to see. The fish look pretty decent for a PlayStation game.

I'm not sure I'd recommend this game to anyone unless they were looking for a fishing game, didn't already have one, and it was cheaper than the others on the shelf or unless they collect fishing games. It's not a bad game, it's just been done so many times already that if you have any other fishing game, you already have this one.
